Eurasian Music Festival

Regular price $48.00

The UChicago Central Asian Studies Society is proud to organize Chicago's first Central Eurasian Music Festival.

On the festival's first day, Saturday, April 18, the doors of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel will open at 5:30 PM. Chicago's own "modern nomadic music" trio Tuvergen [https://www.tuvergenband.com] starts the show at 6:15 PM. The Alash Ensemble [https://alashensemble.com/] — three masters of Tuvan music who sold out the University of Chicago's Ida Noyes Hall Theater last November — will take the stage at 7:00 PM.

The second day of the festival, Sunday, April 19, will take place in the Smart Museum of Art. Doors open at 11:00 AM. Performances will begin at 12:00 PM and conclude at 4:00 PM. This day features artists from Central Eurasian communities throughout the Greater Chicago Area: the Kazakh kobyz-player Akmaral Akbaeva; the Uzbek tor-player Behzod Raxmon; dancers and instrumentalists from Buryad Heritage Chicago; the Kyrgyz akyn (bard) Jenishbek Jumakadyr together with komuz-player Baktybek Shatenov; musicians affiliated with Tatar Chicago; and two troupes of gorshey dancers from the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago.

While donations are appreciated, the performances at the Smart Museum of Art on Sunday are open to the public. Entry to Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on Saturday evening requires a ticket.
